Anthropic Rejects Pentagon Surveillance Demands Amid Supply Chain Ban
Intelligence sources confirm Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei responded after the Department of Defense labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk. Anthropic objected to use of its AI for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons. The designation prevents military contractors from using Anthropic products. Hours later, rival OpenAI accepted a classified Pentagon contract. Industry observers note this marks the first time an AI company has been formally excluded from defense work over ethical concerns regarding surveillance and autonomous weapons. Anthropic had held a $200M Pentagon contract. The company plans to challenge the decision in court.
