Veteran Actor Bruce Campbell Discloses Cancer Diagnosis, Describes Condition as Treatable
Bruce Campbell, best known for his performance as Ash Williams in the Evil Dead film franchise, has publicly disclosed a cancer diagnosis. The 67-year-old actor shared the news through a post on social media platform X, characterizing his condition as treatable though not curable.
In his message to fans, Campbell stated that his diagnosis would necessitate adjustments to his professional schedule, with appearances, conventions, and other work commitments requiring prioritization around treatment requirements. He expressed intentions to undergo treatment during the summer months with the goal of resuming promotional activities for his upcoming film Ernie Emma in the fall.
The actor acknowledged that several convention appearances scheduled for the summer would need to be canceled, noting that treatment obligations and professional commitments do not always align. Campbell emphasized that he was not seeking sympathy or advice but rather wished to proactively address the situation to prevent the spread of inaccurate information.
Campbell, who first portrayed Ash Williams in Sam Raimi 1981 film The Evil Dead, has become synonymous with the horror franchise, appearing in multiple installments and serving as executive producer on the upcoming Evil Dead Burn, scheduled for theatrical release in June.
The actor described himself as a tough individual with strong support systems in place, expressing confidence in his ability to manage the condition. He concluded his message by thanking fans and expressing hope for future meetings.
