TikTok US Experiences Second Oracle Outage in One Month

TikTok users in the United States are experiencing service disruptions due to an Oracle data center outage, marking the second such incident in the past month. The outage affects Oracle's Ashburn, Virginia facility and began on Tuesday afternoon, with service issues peaking around 1PM Eastern Time.

TikTok USDS, the joint venture that now operates TikTok in America following January's ownership transfer from ByteDance, confirmed the issue on social media, stating that users 'may temporarily experience lags in posting content while Oracle works to resolve the issue.'

This represents the second service disruption since the joint venture took control of the app. The previous incident occurred shortly after TikTok USDS—including Oracle as a partner—assumed operations. That earlier outage was attributed to a power failure at an Oracle data center.

The timing of these technical difficulties raises questions about the infrastructure reliability supporting TikTok's American operations, which were established following regulatory pressure and national security concerns about the app's Chinese ownership.
