Pro-Palestine Group Spends $2M to Exploit GOP Rifts Over Trump's Iran War
Midterm elections are unfolding as the U.S. and Israel intensify their war on Iran. The progressive Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project is spending $2 million on ads targeting Republicans over their support for Israel. This is one of the largest investments by a pro-Palestine group this cycle, as progressives ramp up attacks on the pro-Israel lobby and its widespread congressional support. The IMEU aims to exploit what it calls a growing vulnerability for Republicans, as the consequences of their support for Israel are laid bare by President Donald Trump's latest act of war on Iran. The war has aggravated long-standing Republican fault lines on foreign policy, resurfacing questions about the 'America First' party's stance on overseas conflicts. These rifts were evident when Trump appeared to walk back comments from Secretary of State Marco Rubio blaming Israel for dragging the U.S. into the war. IMEU spokesperson Hamid Bendaas stated that the perception Trump launched the war for Israel's benefit is dividing his base and could benefit Democrats in 2026, if they choose to take advantage. So far, the Democratic leadership has declined, despite reportedly concluding in an internal autopsy that Kamala Harris lost voters over Gaza in the 2024 presidential election.
