Paris Anti-Terror Police Foil Bomb Attempt at Bank of America Headquarters
French anti-terrorism police arrested a suspect in the act of trying to ignite an explosive device directly outside the Bank of America headquarters in Paris in the early hours of Saturday morning. Officers from the specialized BAC unit, already on heightened patrol near the building, spotted the individual attempting to set fire to the device with a lighter around 3:30 a.m., preventing any detonation.
The device was a sophisticated assembly, consisting of a 5-liter jerrycan filled with a flammable liquid, reportedly a hydrocarbon like gasoline, attached to a mortar-style tube containing approximately 650 grams of explosive powder. A second individual, believed to be acting as a lookout, fled the scene and remains at large. The swift police intervention resulted in no injuries or material damage.
The foiled plot underscores the persistent threat of targeted attacks on high-profile Western financial institutions in major European capitals. The incident will likely prompt a renewed security review for multinational corporate offices in Paris and intensify scrutiny on the operational methods of individuals or cells attempting such attacks. The ongoing manhunt for the accomplice indicates the investigation is active and expanding.
