Sable Offshore Resumes California Crude Sales After Decade-Long Hiatus, Chevron Takes First Shipment

For the first time in more than ten years, crude oil is flowing from a cluster of offshore platforms in California waters to a major refinery. Sable Offshore has restarted sales, with its initial shipments directed to a Chevron Corp. refinery near Los Angeles, marking a significant reactivation of a long-dormant domestic supply source.

The move involves production from the Beta Field platforms, which had been idled since the previous operator filed for bankruptcy. Sable, which acquired the assets, is now navigating the complex regulatory and market environment of California to bring this production back online. The deal with Chevron provides a ready buyer for the crude, which is a medium-grade, high-sulfur oil typically processed at the state's specialized refineries.

This restart introduces a new, albeit modest, stream of local supply into the California market, which remains heavily dependent on imports and Alaskan crude.
