Tesla Sales Plummet 11.4% in California as EV Market Faces Challenges

Tesla just got hit with rough news from their home turf - sales in California dropped 11.4% in 2025. While overall vehicle registrations rose 3.3%, EV sales took a hit falling from 385513 to 378216. The timing is particularly bad considering Tesla lost their $7500 federal tax credit, and the Elon Musk situation hasnt helped consumer sentiment. But Tesla is still absolutely dominating the California EV market - they sell more EVs than any other auto company, and the Model Y still topped overall vehicle sales. BYD already beat Tesla in global BEV sales for 2025 (2.25 million vs 1.63 million). The EV market is evolving fast and even the king of EVs isnt immune to market forces.
