Casely Power Pod Recall Reissued After Fatal Burn Incident, 28 New Overheat Reports
Casely and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have urgently reissued a recall for over 429,000 wireless power banks following a fatality and dozens of new overheating incidents. The reannouncement comes after 28 additional reports of the 5,000mAh Power Pods overheating, including a serious incident on an airplane and the death of a 75-year-old New Jersey woman. The woman suffered second and third-degree burns from an explosion and later died from complications, according to the USCPSC.
The recall, first announced in April 2025, was initially prompted by 51 reports of the lithium-ion batteries "overheating, expanding or catching fire," which resulted in six minor burn injuries. The product's failure mode remains consistent, posing a severe fire and burn hazard during use or charging. Both authorities are now emphasizing the critical need for consumers to immediately stop using the recalled power banks.
The reissued warning signals persistent, unresolved safety risks with the product and places significant regulatory and reputational pressure on Casely. The involvement of a fatality and an in-flight incident escalates the severity beyond consumer electronics into broader public safety and transportation security concerns. This development will likely trigger intensified scrutiny from regulators and could impact consumer trust in wireless charging accessories from similar brands.
